Wisconsin Badger Corn Maze

The Badger Maze 2025

Our 2025 maze is an American Badger, to celebrate the Badger State! (Which is Wisconsin, in case you weren’t sure…)

Wisconsin received the nickname “The Badger State” because in the early 1800’s Southwestern Wisconsin miners often moved into abandoned mine shafts for shelter, as they were too busy mining to take the time to build houses. These miners were referred to as badgers and eventually Wisconsin became known as the badger state. The badger is the official state animal, and Bucky Badger is the mascot of UW-Madison*.

This year’s intricate 15-acre maze design pays homage to Wisconsin’s iconic nickname and the deep roots of Badger State heritage. We chose the Badger theme to celebrate what makes Wisconsin truly special—our history, our natural beauty, and the friendly, hardworking people who call this place home.

*Both Alan and Angie are Badgers (UW-Madison alums! Angie BS 1988 and DVM 1993; Alan Farm and Industry Short Course 1980.)

Our 2025 maze also celebrates the native wild and plant life found here in Wisconsin. Look closely at the design and see if you can find all the animals and plants hidden there! (See below for more info on each one.)

More about Badgers

The American badger is found in Wisconsin, but it’s not common to see one as they are mostly nocturnal and spend a lot of time underground. They are “fossorial carnivores” which means that they hunt underground, eating various animals like gophers, ground squirrels, moles, mice and voles.

You won’t generally find them where humans are around a lot –but we always hold out hope at the Treinen Farm that a badger might move in some day!
